I Spy with my Little Eye... A Friend!
Friends! I have a story to tell you of an encounter I had not too long ago. I found myself riding the train through the city, and across from me I noticed a young woman interacting with her phone. Now, that in and of itself is unremarkable. But I found myself struck, for this woman was tapping the screen of her phone oh so delicately! It was akin to how you would touch the nose of a young baby to make it laugh. What care, what compassion this woman showed to her phone! I followed her arm's physique, noticing how the motion of her wrist led to the enhanced dexterity in her fingers resulting in the most perfect phone touching technique you have ever seen! My God, this woman was a master!
This encounter activated in me a certain thought. Does this woman know that she has found her purpose in life? I now believe that everyone has a specific talent in which they alone have achieved perfection. Some may argue that interacting with a phone screen is not a "talent," but they are fools. While society may not award this woman with trophies and accolades, is it no less impressive than an athlete's ability of speed, or an inventor's ability to dream? Yes friends, we all have something that we are the singular best at. I implore you all to find that talent, and once you have you should value it as you would a prized possession no matter how others perceive its use or lack thereof. Your special skill may be found somewhere in the digital realm, or perhaps it lies hidden in a land you have yet to visit. But do not fear! It is out there! Maybe my special talent is making friends, wouldn't that be lovely!
Looking back once more on this encounter causes my thoughts to fork in a new direction. As I saw the skill with which this woman tapped her phone, I found myself minorly enamored. Now of course I love everyone, but even so I was infatuated! In moments like this the mind begins to daydream. A version of this person started to grow entirely from within my head, and while I knew nothing of her personality, the gaps of her being were filled in with my imagination catalyzed all from how she handled her touchscreen! Before I knew it I had made a whole new friend entirely from the confines of my brain! The pessimists among us may say, "Why that's entirely foolish, if you were to actually meet this woman and get to know her further than just a chance observance, you would find that you have filled those gaps in her personality with falsehoods. The real version will be so different from what you have imagined you might as well treat them as two separate people!" (you see friends, I made this pessimist write in red words because they do not feel happiness, what a shame!) Well, we will see who the fool really is. If the real woman and the imagined woman should be treated as two separate people, then I have made two friends from one! Huzzah!
